Examples of results achieved during the period 2016-2019: - IDA's advocacy work resulted in sustaining and increasing the attention to the rights of persons with disabilities throughout the UN human rights system. With this work, positive developments have been made across human rights mechanisms, including greater attention to the rights of women and girls with disabilities and to inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian action. - IDA's continuous work with Member States’ Permanent Missions and the use of a CRPD lens contributed to strengthening synergies between human rights and development issues stemming out from the SDGs. This work has also supported a constant increase of references to disability in 2030 Agenda related reports. - IDA advocated and supported Member States to adopt the UN Security Council Resolution 2475 on persons with disabilities in conflict in 2019. - IDA supported Disabled Persons' Organisations (DPOs) and persons with disabilities to engage with various accountability mechanisms and contribute to the development and monitoring of Agenda 2030 implementation to ensure commitments for inclusive development and human rights of persons with disabilities are realised. For example, IDA facilitated the participation of DPOs from 79 countries in Geneva. With IDA's technical support and logistical support, DPOs from 43 countries participated in mainstream treaty bodies. - As a result of IDA's coordinating role, more than 800 people participated in the Civil Society CRPD Forum, organized by IDA during the annual Conference of State Parties meeting in New York. - IDA's work has greatly contributed to the Global Action on Disability (GLAD) Network which has grown to be one of the most influential mechanisms for the promotion of the disability rights. - IDA supported capacity building of DPOs through its Bridge CRPD-SDGs initiative, which resulted in more than 900 leaders being trained on the CRPD and SDGs from 103 countries as well as inspiring others to invest in capacity building.
The purpose of International Disability Alliance’s (IDA) work is to ensure that persons living with disabilities are meaningfully involved in, and are in a position to benefit from programs and policies related to the implementation of the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Sustainable Development Agenda (SDG). IDA work towards increased synergies between human rights and development frameworks in order to ensure that these contribute to an enabling environment. This in turn is expected to enhance participation of Disabled Persons' Organizations (DPO) and strengthen political will and capacities of governments to implement the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and make development inclusive of persons with disabilities.
