RWI Phase II 2024-2026

Regional Asia Pacific Programme: Advancing Just Transitions to Climate Resilient and Nature-Positive Societies (RAPP2) is a regional program in Southeast Asia and South Asia run by RWI together with partners in the region. The intervention will last from May 2024 until December 2026. RAPP2 is a continuation of Sida's previous support for RWI's Regional Asia Pacific Program (2017-2024). Sweden's support for RAPP2 is also a phase-out support for RWI's regional program in Asia and the Pacific. RAPP2 builds on previous results from the regional program and strengthens capacity in South and Southeast Asia to achieve equitable and sustainable development. The overall objective of RAPP2 is to enhance enabling environments for just transitions to climate-resilient and nature-positive societies that are grounded in human rights and gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region. More specifically, RAPP2 will: 1) Strengthen the enabling environment for integrating and addressing human mobility risks, grounded in rights- and gender-based approach, in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation (CCMA) Initiatives. 2) Strengthen the enabling environment for improved access to environmental justice in Southeast Asia. 3) Strengthen the enabling environment for increased business compliance with EU regulation on human rights and environmental due diligence in the biofuels and critical minerals sectors. These objectives will be achieved by: - strengthening universities' capacity to deliver evidence- and rights-based education in law, trade and extraction of minerals and biofuels, climate migration, and disaster risk reduction to the next generation of national and regional entrepreneurs, experts and leaders; - strengthening the capacity of regional organizations and National Human Rights Institutes (NHRIs) to identify deficiencies and uphold environmental and human rights. The Revision of the Philippines’ Procedural Rules on Environmental Cases is a smaller component of RAPP2 which is being conducted jointly with the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) and the Asia Research Institute on Environmental Law (ARIEL). The component lasts for one year (2024-2025). The component is a result of a call for proposals for deepened partnership among the existing partners to Sweden's regional development cooperation in Asia and the Pacific (2023-24 Idea Competition).
