The overall aim of this programme is to ensure girls, boys and youth in Tanzania are protected from violence, equipped to demand their rights, and access education in a safe environment. This is an integrated program on Child protection, Child rights governance and Education 2022-2024 for Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar. Save the children works with the national and local government structures (responsible for delivery of children’s right to safe and equitable learning environment.

Result
1. Increased awareness and empowerment of children to report incidences of abuse and exploitation. In 2022, 87% of girls and boys reached, reported feeling safe in their community as a result of capacity building interventions 2. Positive response among the community leaders,service providers and the duty bearers in enabling safe and appropriate responses in regards to child protection. 3. 68% of the reached 203 parents and care givers adopted gender transformative practices as a result of implementing the Parenting without Violence approach. 4. Capacity building of community leaders resulted into identification and response of issues such as sexual abuse, inappropriate touching of children at Madras, school drop out due to lack of school materials, Physical and Humiliating Punishments and limited access to education for children with disability, child labor in stone quarries and child marriages. 5. Strengthened child protection systems and services through child care centres,Police Gender and Children Desks, District Social Welfare Officers, and Community Health Workers and On stop centres 6. The National Children Advisory Board, Junior Councils and Children Clubs are functioning well and are able to demand accountability of duty bearers for protection of rights of children 7. Continued advocacy efforts with the Parliamentary Committees on the legal minimum age of marriage 8. Active Junior Councils in place and rolling out of a guideline for the establishment work,structures and functions of the junior councils. 9. Enhanced capacity of LGAs to adopt strategies to support holistic child development and pre primary teaching practices in Mbozi. 9 wards covered out of 28 wards. 10. Supporting the government to implement the National Multisectoral Early Childhood Development Programme (NM EDCP). 11. Strengthened safe learning environment in and around schools in Zanzibar 12. Contributing to strengthen the civic space and operationalisation of the civil society organisations in both mainland and Zanzibar.
The programme approach entails advocating for increased resources/utilization, social mobilization to raise awareness, giving children and young people a voice in policy processes. Overall Goal- Girls, boys and youth in Tanzania are protected from violence, equipped to demand their rights, and access education in a safe environment. Specific Objective: Children are protected and their rights are fulfilled Save the Children will focus on Child Protection, Child Rights Governance and Inclusive Education, and this will be achieved through the following outcomes; Child Protection Outcome 1.1 Girls and boys feel safe within their communities and advocate for their rights Outcome 1.2. Gender dynamics within families are positively influenced and caregivers work to end gender-based violence in their communities Outcome 1.3. Community leaders engaged in work to end sexual violence and protect those who have experienced harm Outcome 1.4. Child protection system and services are strengthened to support girls and boys who have experienced violence. Child rights Governance Outcome 2.1. Civil Society Organizations and child led organizations are capacitated, and able to promote and demand accountability of duty bearers for protection of the rights of girls and boys Outcome 2.2. Girls and boys meaningfully engage through existing platforms to promote their rights and influence decisions Outcome 2.3. Improve capacity and responsiveness of duty-bearers to take children and civil society organisations views into account through child-centered social accountability process. Inclusive Education: Early Childhood Development and Basic Education Outcome 3.1: Improved capacity of LGAs to support holistic child development and pre-primary teaching practices in Mbozi. Outcome 3.2: Strengthened safe learning environment in and around schools in Zanzibar.
