Result
The TCCP R1 competition was opened on 29th September and closed on 10th November 2022. A total of 59 applications were received, out that 59 concept notes were received with 45 shortlisted to submit business plans. 42 applicants responded and after the evaluation, 17 companies were shortlisted to proceed to due diligence stage to verify information shared in the business plan. After the due diligence, 6 companies were presented to Internal Investment Review Committee (IIRC) with 3 approved and forwarded to Investment Committee (IC) for its approved. The 3 companies were approved by IC and contracts have been signed. Before signing the contract, the due diligence report, evaluation report and Letter of award of contract were submitted to the embassy for no-objection, of which was granted. These companies have received the first disbursement. Proposed technologies and project locations: LPG emerged as the most favored solution with 20 companies proposed it, closely followed by improved cookstoves with 15 applications. The identified project areas were predominantly Dar es Salaam, , Dodoma, Morogoro, Coast, Arusha, Mwanza, and Kilimanjaro. It is important to note that Dar es Salaam took the lead, despite the explicit emphasis on prioritizing projects implemented in rural and peri urban areas. Contracted companies: Three companies have been contracted comprising two LPG and one improved cookstove companies that will benefit a total of 70,000 households in rural and peri urban areas. These companies include: - Avad Enterprises Company Ltd (LPG) that has been awarded SEK 2,000,000 and it will benefit 20,000 households. - Envotec Services Company Ltd (Improved Cook stoves) that has been awarded SEK 1,850,000 and will benefit 20,000 households. - Tema General Traders Company Ltd (LPG) has been awarded SEK 3,000,000 and it will benefit 30,000 households. Due diligence observations: During the due diligence there were several issues observed from the companies. The issues encompassed inaccurate information, missing documents, lack of clarity, limited professional experience.
Goal: The program goal is to accelerate the adoption of clean cooking solutions by the poor and underserved populations in Tanzania. This goal will be achieved through the following objectives: Objectives: i. Catalyze the private sector participation in clean cooking solutions in poor population and underserved markets ii. Accelerate the uptake of clean cooking solutions through innovative financing mechanisms and technical assistance to selected private sector companies iii. Strengthen the clean cooking sector coordination and advocate for a conducive policy environment for a market led clean cooking sector. Focus areas : Rural and marginalized communities in urban, peri-urban and rural areas Target primary beneficiaries: • Poor people • Early and growth stage private sector enterprises through grant funding, business assistance and technical assistance • Business Member Organization including TAREA
