Example of results from IMS 2023 years annual report is as follows: -Results recorded for 2023 show the highest concentration of results under outcome 1, related to public interest content and media. This includes the production and distribution of public interest content through core financial support and expert mentoring. The focus area includes in-depth and investigative journalism, documentary film, and collaboration with local media, which have contributed to social, political, or cultural changes in some of the most challenged parts of the MENA region. A total of 37 partners were supported. -Efforts targeting organisational capacity development and business viability showcase a series of results of how IMS partners wish to professionalize their organisations by requesting expert advising from IMS. At least 23 media content-producing partners improved their capacities and media viability through these initiatives, with 18 partners receiving advisory support on organisational development, media business, content production, audience data, and DEI/ gender equality. This provides evidence of changes in organisational regulations and guidelines, ranging from improvement in internal governance structures to inclusive, gender-sensitive working environments for media workers, including the development of supportive institutional policies and procedures. -IMS continue to explore the impact of financial core support and how it can enhance partners income generation, ultimately leading to financial sustainability. Also, 2023 marked the first year for IMS to aggregate digital audience data. According to IMS, when comparing with other media development organisations, IMS is the first organisation to track annual audience data at partners organisational level. This is due to the modality of providing core funding in which IMS can harvest audience data on partners full media production (in contrast to providing financial support on specific themes and outputs).
The overall goal of IMS programme in MENA is to contribute to a vibrant and inclusive civic space where the media engenders actions that further human rights, accountability and social, political and cultural change. IMS has identified two strategic priorities to bring about its overall impact goal in the MENA Region: One: Enhance the quality and inclusivity of public interest content and the viability of the media outlets producing and distributing this content. Two: Create conditions that encourage the viable production, distribution and consumption of inclusive public interest content; an "enabling environment".
