Through its efforts to combat gender-based violence and human trafficking, AWEN has enhanced institutional responses, strengthened referral mechanisms, and raised public awareness, contributing to a culture of zero tolerance toward violence. Its advocacy initiatives, including research on political representation and engagement with policymakers, have addressed systemic barriers to women's participation in governance, ensuring that gender quotas translate into meaningful leadership roles. Additionally, AWEN's capacity-building sessions and information campaigns have empowered women with the knowledge and tools to navigate legal and political systems, reinforcing their ability to advocate for their rights. On the economic aspect, AWEN has worked to eliminate legal and structural barriers preventing women from securing financial independence, particularly those from marginalized groups. By providing specialized legal support and facilitating access to justice in property and financial matters, AWEN has contributed to strengthen women's ability to claim their economic rights. Awareness-raising efforts and targeted training on legal frameworks have equipped women with the skills to navigate financial systems, fostering long-term economic stability. Furthermore, AWEN has contributed to the sustainability and efficiency of women-led civil society organizations, ensuring their continued advocacy for gender equality. Through these multifaceted interventions, AWEN has advanced its mission of creating a more inclusive society where women and girls can fully exercise their human rights and actively shape their futures. Examples of results of results under the four outcomes are the following: - In 2024, the number of beneficiaries supported by AWEN member organizations increased from 5,073 in 2023 to 6,921 in 2024. - In 2024, 15 women supported by Jona Association (based in Saranda), and 46 women supported by Vatra Center (based in Vlora) were successfully employed, highlighting the tangible impact of their work in promoting women's economic inclusion and independence (Employment referral and mediation). - The referral mechanisms are operational in 72% of the targeted municipalities where AWEN and members are working (11). - Local advocacy efforts included successful dialogue with the Municipality of Tirana, leading to the installation of street lighting on 68 streets, improving public safety, particularly for women and vulnerable groups. AWEN also monitored media ethics and filed complaints with the Audiovisual Media Authority, addressing violations in broadcast content that promoted harmful gender stereotypes and disinformation. - Throughout 2024, AWEN has supported its members in implementing their strategic plans by offering tailored guidance, and mentorship opportunities. This support has mainly consisted of facilitating peer-to peer learning and knowledge sharing sessions where members can exchange best practices and lessons learned, offering tailored consultations or coaching sessions to help members overcome specific challenges or obstacles in their plan execution, and creating collaborative spaces or online forums where members can network, collaborate on joint initiatives, and access relevant resources or expertise.
AWENs long-term goal in the Strategic Plan 2023-2028 is: In six years, Albanian girls and women are more empowered socially, economically, and politically and are realizing their human rights in the areas where AWEN is working. The Strategic outcomes are the following: 1) Reduced prevalence of Gender based Violence/GbV including human trafficking. 2) More women have become included in decision making positions in central and local levels. 3) More women in targeted groups have become more economically empowered. 4) Women CSOs have become more democratic, sustainable, environmentally concerned, and efficient in realizing their missions.
