Result
In short, considerable results were achieved for the young people who participated in the programme as well as for their families/care givers, particularly during the pre-COVID implementation period: Adolescents inter alia got increased self-confidence, social- and communication skills as well as skills- and vocational training. Some adolescents got employment or started their own small businesses (with support of micro-credit grants, internships etc.) and in many cases participating young people could start contributing to the family income. Intra-family relations improved through the programme. A total of 2 652 adolescents and 410 caregivers were reached through the programme in the two countries. As for more sustainable results on the community level in terms of child rights integration in local structures, the programme results more were limited.
The project goal was: Adolescents affected by the Syria crisis are resilient and act as agents of change i society. The programme focused on resilience among youth and adolescents (10 to 20 year old) addressing the serious protection risks as a result of the Syrian conflict and subsequent displacement crises in Syria and in Lebanon. The intervention dealt with immediate issues of deteriorating or non-existing education and life in camps and host communities compounded by poverty and exclusion. An expected result of Save the Children´s programme was strengthened resilience among adolescent girls and boys, their families and communities, who have been negatively affected by the Syrian crisis. Male and female adolescents were equally targeted by the programme, receiving adapted support according to their specific needs and situation in life. Preventing gender-based violence was mainstreamed in the programme. The programme also had an ambitious focus on conflict sensitivity and an extensive conflict sensitivity analysis for the work in Syria was conducted by Saferworld.
