The programme will also target 80 government agricultural extension workers and 170 community health care workers. This will be achieved through delivering interventions across three pathways of change to achieve three mutually reinforcing sub-goals.\n\nPathway 1  Resilient Agriculture: the goal is to increase agricultural production, productivity, and resilience through regenerative agriculture and sustainable agriculture practices. This process will be conducted through promoting of community-based seed production and training of farmers, association and government extension agents in good agronomic practices aligned with regenerative and sustainable agriculture. This Pathway has 3 major Outcomes:\n\n- Enhanced smallholder farmers access to the environmentally friendly technology package;\n\n- Improved and strengthened the assistance capacity of agricultural extension services in the target districts; and\n\n- Improved sustainable use of natural resources and conservation of ecological biodiversity.\n\nPathway 2  Food and Nutrition Security: the goal is to improve food and nutrition security, especially reducing malnutrition among children under 5 and women. The Programmes nutrition approach is focused on investments into malnutrition prevention activities, improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene and improving district coordination of nutrition interventions. This includes supporting improved access to and availability of food through support for nutrition-sensitive agricultural production and market access and capacity building on food conservation and storage techniques. In addition, nutrition education interventions will increase the knowledge and understanding of how smallholder households can make use of local produce to improve nutrition, by changing the prevalent food preparation and eating habits.\n\nThe Programme will support health centres to deliver the nutritional packages into the target communities through Community Health Workers and will strengthen coordination mechanisms for nutrition at the district level. The Programme will support training to the district health authorities and will support the health system to equip their personnel with key working material for nutrition component.\n\nThis Pathway has 4 major Outcomes:\n\n- Increased availability, access, and use of nutritious food throughout the year in the target districts;\n\n- Strengthened capacity of community health care to deliver the nutritional package to communities in the target districts; \n\n- Enhanced the role of men in actions aimed at reducing malnutrition; and\n\n- Improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices.\n\nPathway 3  Sustainable Income: the goal is to increase income generation opportunities for vulnerable households, in particular young people, and female-headed households in Nipepe, Maúa, Marrupa, Metarica and Cuamba district. The programme will provide capacity trainings on business and financial management and will support the development of  business plans focusing on small businesses for community members, particularly for young people and womens. There will be a challenge fund to pass on as sub-grants to small businesses and associations, aiming at income generation and diversification. Programmets nutritionsstrategi är inriktad på investeringar i förebyggande åtgärder mot undernäring, förbättrad tillgång till vatten, sanitet och hygien samt förbättrad distriktssamordning av nutritionsinsatser. Detta omfattar stöd till förbättrad tillgång till och tillgänglighet av livsmedel genom stöd till näringskänslig jordbruksproduktion och marknadstillträde samt kapacitetsuppbyggnad när det gäller tekniker för bevarande och lagring av livsmedel. Dessutom kommer nutritionsutbildningsinsatser att öka kunskapen om och förståelsen för hur småbrukarhushåll kan använda lokala produkter för att förbättra näringen genom att ändra de rådande matlagnings- och matvanorna.\n\nProgrammet kommer att stödja hälsocentraler för att leverera näringspaket till målgrupperna genom lokala hälsoarbetare och kommer att stärka samordningsmekanismerna för näring på distriktsnivå. The October 2024 general elections and subsequent post-election unrest disrupted normal operations and significantly slowed the formation of a new government, which included extensive ministry restructuring. These political transitions particularly hindered interventions that required government engagement and official authorizations. In addition, the Mpox outbreak in the implementation area compounded these difficulties by imposing strict health protocols and limiting community mobilization, leading to the postponement or downsizing of several field activities.\n\nMoreover, the remote and hard-to-reach areas of Niassacharacterized by poor road infrastructure and limited access to servicesposed significant logistical challenges that further slowed progress. As a result, some activities, particularly under the income generation component, are slightly behind schedule.
