The project managed to contribute to increased milk production for the year with the national milk production reaching to just below 115 million litres per year, an increase on the 2023 milk volumes by 15%. To this national volume the iMoved dairy hubs contributed 1.6% with a total volume of 1.84million litres of
milk delivered to the formal markets resulting in USD1,012 million dollars at an average price of USD0,55. The year under review also had Somabhula and Romac dairy hubs making their inaugural milk deliveries to Dairiboard Zimbabwe with annual deliveries of 18,512 and 3,102 litres respectively as a result of the project's support that included inspection and certification of dairy farmers as well as sample collection and testing of raw milk which is are key requirements for dairy participation.

2. The project contributed to the diversification of especially women smallholder farmers' income sources through established 13 green hubs participation in oil pressing, soya and sunflower cake production with an average of USD370 per month per site. This was further strengthened with greenhouse production with 3 sites that started selling their produce making an average of US950.00 per week per site. This has enabled smallholder farmers to contribute to the purchase of dairy animals, participate in dairy breed improvements through artificial insemination utilizing the subsidized semen revolving fund, enhance participation in income savings and lending schemes.

3. The project managed to strengthen access to critical services through engagement of private players along the value chains which resulted in contracts being developed between off takers and smallholder farmers and input suppliers across the value chain. A total of 7 contracts were developed and this included Dairiboard Zimbabwe Limited, FeedMix, Coopers, Fivet, Syngenta, Nyaningwe Supermarket, Local institutions such as boarding schools, hospitals and mines.

4. Number of functional sites: A total of nine agricultural hubs are fully functional with the exception of Datata and Umguza whose dairy value chain is yet to be developed Chikwaka as the soya bean hub is yet to be developed and Somabhula where the green hub development was affected by dry holes.

5. Increased participation of women in leadership positions: The percentage of females in leadership positions across the three value chains improved from 49.3% in 2023 to 52% in 2024. This was mainly due to the trainings that were done in 2024 and influencing of new committees that were being elected in office after their terms of office came to an end during the reporting period. Leaders from successful Internal Savings and Lending groups provided a good base for coaching and mentoring of prospective leaders. A total number of 1,671 women are participating in internal savings and lending clubs in all the project sites a huge increase from 980 women achieved in 2023.

Key results at Output level

* Sustainable and efficient production capacity, including value addition
The promotion of sustainable and efficient agricultural practices during the reporting period was advanced through equipping 9 hubs and the introduction of innovative production systems. The assets in the agriculture hubs are benefiting more than 3, 000 rights holders in the 13 sites and these assets resulted in improved production capacity in all three value chains.

Marirangwe serves as a mechanization support under the projects grant and matching grant facilities. iMoved Project extended USD11,000.00 to the Dairy Hub and a further USD7,000.00 through a matching grant facility which the members matched with their own USD7,000.00 bringing the total to USD25,000.00. These funds were used to procure hay baling equipment (bailer, rake and slasher), silage equipment and a tractor drawn trailer as own feed formulation had been identified as the major thrust for the Marirangwe dairy farmers especially after the effects of the 2023/24 drought season. The fodder conserved enabled farmers to maintain their animals in a relatively good body condition score as well as growing the milk volume for Marirangwe despite the drought. These results at output level feed into the main results under which the hub is identified as the best performing in terms of milk production as well as site and household income generation for 2024.

Collaborations with private sector players like Kurima Centre, Easiseeds, Coopers, Fivet, Feedmix, dairy processors, Government technical extension and Zimbabwe Dairy Industry Trust (ZDIT) have improved service provision and capacity building at agriculture hubs. Through these players, farmers knowledge and skills were enhanced in hygienic milk production, animal health, artificial insemination, breed improvement, climate smart farming, feed formulation, infrastructure development, farm management, equipment use and maintenance as well as general animal husbandry.

* Access to and linkages to reliable and economically viable input suppliers and markets for smallholder farmers
A total of 454 dairy farmers were reached with marketing information across the iMoved dairy sites during the year 2024 against a target of 1,000. A project specific WhatsApp chat BOT (a communication interface using the WhatsApp platform that farmers can register to be part of, to receive information on the various aspects around production, markets, financial linkages, value addition, service providers and off takers for example) was also finalised during the reporting period. This will be the main platform to be used to link farmers to regular and accurate market and extension related information going forward. The chat bot is housed at ZADF.

A total of 1,343 farmers against an annual target of 3,000 farmers reported improved access to inputs on competitive terms and conditions. This has resulted in the adoption of sunflower and soya beans production as evidenced by an increase in in hectarage planted and number of farmers in the soya/oil value chain across the 13 sites compared to 2023. The roll out of the semen revolving fund for artificial insemination has improved access especially for women and youth smallholder farmers from all 13 project sites who are interested in getting into dairy farming through the beef dairy model.

* Access to Business Development Services (BDS)
The project facilitated dialogue meetings between farmers and Business Development Service (BDS) providers that includes both private and public entities. The objective was to improve access to services such as financial, certification, health/extension and marketing as discussions brought out smallholder farmers priorities.

The project facilitated co-creation of models together with private sector players that contributed and strengthened pluralistic extension which bridged the information gap along the value chains. Tailor made services were developed to address low production, productivity and access to markets for both inputs and outputs. For example, the project integrated farmer structures such as ISAL groups, Rural Womens Assemblies (RWAs), study circle groups into the three value chain related hubs. The structured groups became an entry incentive for the private sector in their engagement with smallholder farmers who they have traditionally perceived as not organized for their products.

Further, the project took advantage of the already planned forums that the partners, WLZ and ZADT, by virtue of them being membership based, traditionally use to engage with policy issues. These platforms allowed the members to interact with private and public players and issues that were affecting smallholder farmers were presented as a policy or practice alternative.

* Enabling environment for dairy, soybeans and horticulture value chain participation
The project continuously lobbied and advocated for a conducive economic and regulatory environment by building evidence through identification of policy related bottlenecks. For example, project supported women and youth small holder farmers with strategies on how to effectively engage duty bearers and this led to allocation of 5hectare plots and led to increased service provision from government extension officers across the 13 sites. The project sites are in
different localities with unique governance structures that have to be followed to access land.

In addition, regards financial products and services, ZB Bank and Zimbabwe Women's Micro finance Bank developed a product for smallholder farmers and carried out farmer assessments. At the end of the reporting period, the two financial institutions were finalizing processing of loans to smallholder farmers at
Cynara and Umguza Agricultural Hubs. These loans have been specifically designed for dairy and horticultural farmers and will act as pilot initiatives with the intention of scaling these up to the remaining project sites.

* Strengthened women's participation and leadership in the dairy value chain to reduce institutional and market barriers and promote inclusive economic development for women in dairy.
Perceptions from key service providers has always been that women smallholder farmers are risky with limited collateral and this limited expansion of women's economic participation. To caveat that view and bring women up in the sector, the project invested in influencing existing farmer structures to include women in leadership positions so that they advocate for specific issues that affect them. The project also ensured that the Rural Women's Assemblies are established across the 13 project sites to function as a vehicle towards lobbying and advocating for space in the value chains of choice.

Key results from COP Handover- April 2026
The iMoved project has generated measurable impacts across targeted value chains, enhancing the livelihoods, resilience, and inclusion of smallholder farmers. The following section highlights key outcome-level results, demonstrating how project interventions have translated into tangible benefits for women, youth, and other value chain actors.

Through its partnership with ZADF and as part of sector-wide advocacy efforts, the project successfully contributed to creating a more enabling environment for the dairy sector. Key achievements include the reduction and harmonization of regulatory fees previously, dairy farmers were required to obtain up to 25 permits across 12 agencies now it will be only one agency to issue fewer permits, and dairy processor registration fees were reduced from US$350 to US$50. While the government has yet to gazette the new consolidated fees, their formal adoption will significantly lower compliance costs, particularly benefiting women and youth-led start-ups. In addition, the project supported the provision of subsidized feed inputs to strengthen dairy production and promote sector growth. Changes in such policies as the inclusion of dairy farmers in government subsidised crop inputs increased silage production for both male and female farmers as dairy became part of the Presidential Inputs Scheme.

Land Allocation for Women to establish Green Hubs
Rural District Councils, after a series of engagements with Rural Women Assembly chapters supported by the project through Women and Land in Zimbabwe, allocated 5-hectare plots giving a total of 65 ha in all 13 project sites for Horticulture Green Hub establishment. To formalize this and to protect the supported womens groups from possible land re-acquisitions, the department of lands updated district maps to reflect the new allocations in both resettlement and communal areas.

Strengthening Dairy Off-Take Arrangements
The project facilitated four new off-take agreements for the Romac, Lot 78, and Somabhula Dairy Hubs, Charurwa (first collection of 103 litres done on 31 October 2025) with Dairibord Zimbabwe, while also strengthening seven existing dairy hubs with off-take arrangements with Nestlé, Kefalos, and Dairibord. These efforts increased both membership and daily milk deliveries at the hubs. Of the 114,699,440 litres of milk delivered to processors in 2024, iMoved project sites contributed 1.84 million litres, representing 1.6% of national outputup from 1.3% in 2023.

Leveraging their position as the largest off-taker for the 10 participating dairy hubs, Dairibord Zimbabwe supported the growth of two hubs by acting as a loan guarantor, using milk deliveries as collateral. This enabled farmers to access finance, expand operations, and meet grant requirements, further strengthening the dairy value chain. This is particularly important as it enhanced smallholder farmers market access, income stability, and capacity for growth, while creating a sustainable model that links production, finance, and policy engagement to improve resilience and competitiveness in the sector.

Payment Currency and Price Advocacy
Inflation and a fixed milk price ($0.60/litre) threatened farm viability with dairy processors opting for the 80:20 rule for USD and ZIG when paying for milk delivered. This affected re-investment in the value chain as most input suppliers were not accepting local currency i.e. ZIG, coupled with delays in payment that were affected by inflationary pressure. To address that ZADF through their regional and national meetings mobilized their members to lobby processors to revise their position by sharing lived experiences for dairy farmers and reduced profitability with the payment structure. These actions were further supported by quarterly organized ZDIT meetings that had participation from players and stakeholders in the dairy value chain. Through these actions ZADF and ZDIT successfully lobbied milk off-takers to shift from 80:20 USD:ZiG payments to full USD payments, protecting farmer profitability.

Financial Inclusion and Empowerment
Partnerships with formal and informal banks that included ZB Bank, ZADT, Womens Empowerment Bank, and SMEDCO enhanced access to finance for women and youth. Support targeted ISALs and Commodity Producer Groups, enabling investments in irrigation systems, dairy animals and value addition equipment. As a result of these partnerships three women led hub groups accessed USD 100,000 in loans. The loan arrangements were further supported with outreach activities from the financial service providers on financial literacy, conflict management, market linkages and business management. This approach from financial service providers complimented the projects activities and thrust that emphasizes the role of private players in scaling up development initiatives.

Collaborations with private sector
Collaborations with feed, drug, seed, and machinery supply companiesincluding Kurima Centre, Easiseeds, Coopers, Fivet, Feedmix, Total Farm Solutions, ZDIT, and government extension servicesstrengthened hub-level training and contributed to a pluralistic extension approach. Through these partnerships, private sector actors leveraged their own resources for outreach and marketing, enabling farmers to acquire practical skills in modern agricultural practices. This is important because it enhances smallholder productivity, strengthens linkages between farmers and input suppliers, and fosters sustainable, market-oriented farming systems that improve livelihoods and resilience as in the given examples below:

- Hygienic milk production that resulted in less than five rejections from milk processors from the project sites in 2025 down from above ten previously

- Animal health and husbandry to support especially the procured new dairy breeds with a loss of only 2 out of 69 heifers being registered in 2025.

- Artificial insemination and breed improvement that led to 300 women smallholder farmers adopting this model using the semen revolving fund facility.

- Climate-smart farming saw the widespread adoption of water conservation techniques that included drip systems, use of fertility trenches, use of organic manure and increased production of especially sunflower as a drought resistant crop.

- Feed formulation and infrastructure development reduced costs at farmer level and hub level.

- Equipment use and maintenance trainings from suppliers targeting maintenance committees at the 13 hubs contributed to skills enhancement and ultimately sustainability of initiatives.
